New Plan for Transitional Days- Art Stations!

When a unit comes to an end, there are some loose ends that need to occur. Students update their portfolio with unit reflections, old materials are put away,  and student artwork is passed back leaving the walls bare all over again. Blah! So I am trying out a new plan next week to make our transitional day a bit more festive- Valentine Themed Art Stations.
Kids will work on the Chomebooks to complete their reflections and Unit feedback survey. When they are done they can independently (I hope) rotate through three simple Valentine-themed projects that will be used to decorate the room! I'll post pic's of the results and share how it went. :)

This collaborative effort is being spearheaded by Math, Expressions and Technology class. Videos should be complete in early February and will share student progress. Fingers crossed for our 8th grade team!

Digital photography art

8th graders were challenged to find letters in nature to create individually chosen words or phrases.  I was so impressed with their ability to look at nature with a critical eye and find so many letters that were organic in nature as well as look at architecture to spot angles and lines in the shape of letters.  Can't wait to see the final pictures put together in Photoshop to build individual words!

Our rulers will get a lot of action this month while artwork is being created helping students become more aware that math concepts exists outside of room E-4!

Literature and Art Exhibit

We are SO excited that the Poetry Out Loud competition aligned with the opening of our Literature and Art Exhibit! This years exhibit is a collaborate effort of 6th, 7th and 8th grade student artwork. The Literature and Art Exhibit celebrates literature through self expressive art in all forms. 6th grade students created graphic poem silhouettes that showcase striking visual contrast. The 7th grade students constructed block letter sculptures utilizing mixed media to express understanding and appreciation of poetry. The 8th grade students recreated a scene within their favorite book using simplistic and recycled materials.
