War and Conflict Silhouette

Students will consider the representation of conflict in visual art and create their own representations of opposition and conflict using the medium of the silhouette to describe and represent ideas including its history as an art form.

Papel Picado

Papel Picado is a decorative craft made out of paper cut into elaborate designs. The students will choose a traditional Mexican pattern that they will use to make their own. Once completed, we will string picados together and hang from the classroom ceiling- festive!

Self As Manga

The students took the skills they acquired from directed drawings and really got into transforming themselves into a Manga-style character. These turned out very good this year!

Chagall

Na'vi-ize Yourself

When Avatar came out I wasn't at all interested. We waited until it came out on DVD before we finally watched it. And though the movie was OK, it was visually STUNNING! since that night I have wanted to incorporate some type of art project centered around that film. in my research I found tons of adobe photo shop "how-to's" if one wanted to adapt their face into a Na'vi character. Too easy! That is how I came up with this project- same concept but low-tech!
