Knitting for a Cause

 Here are some pictures of some students during our first week of knitting. We flipped the classroom this year by having students watch a couple how-to youtube videos at home the weekend before we began. Students brought their materials to school Wednesday and by Friday most had 9 inches knitted! Students will knit two 50 inch strips that will be woven together to make stadium sized blankets for Project Linus. Way to go 8th Grade!

Nouveau Art

8th grade students discovered the gold-leaf technique while observing artist Gustav Klimt during our Art Exploration Unit. Students used an image of themselves to create Art Nouveau by scratching geometric and organic-shaped patterns on a gold scratch board. The outcomes are stunning and really capture the New Art style!

Collaborative Collage of Remembrance

7th grade students collaborated on a skeleton chalk drawing to depict a theme of remembrance for the Dias de los Muertos Exhibit. Students developed themes of interest such as athletes, musicians and extinct animals to remember. Each person within a group was responsible for developing a section of the skeleton along with drawing chalk application and collage media and the outcome is truly a collaborative showcase. These towering skeletons with certainly make a statement at the exhibit!

Expressionism

 8th grade students study Edvard Munch's The Scream and attempt to interpret what the screamer is screaming about. For extension, students create a parody of the scream depicting a scene of what makes them scream.

Papel Picados

Students used Xacto Knives to cut out positive spaces within intricate patterns to create these colorful banners that will adorn the Dias de los Muertos Exhibit in November.

Optical Illusions

The 8th grade class created many technical optical illusion patterns and created many forms of Op Art. Here are some examples of Op Cubes and Op Cd's.

Block Linoleum Skull Cards

7th grade students carved skull images into block linoleum and layered paper to create Remembrance Cards. This project will be featured in the Dias de los Muertos Exhibit and the cards will also be available to purchase for LEA Boo-Grams.

Pen and Ink Drawings

Taking Visual Puns and applying pen and ink drawing techniques. Should be fun and insightful!

Altered Book

Who would have known that the students were going to take the concept of altering a book and create such amazing narratives of their favorite poems. There are too many to show, but here are a few we can showcase.
