Illuminated Letter

Here are some student examples that turned out quite nice!

http://www.princetonol.com/groups/iad/lessons/high/ken-illumination.htm

This year students will make an illumination of their first or last initial. I worked on my example this weekend and this is what I have so far.

Synthia Saint James

I absolutely love how stylized her subjects are, so simplistic in form. It allows for bold color exploration and our student work always turns out stunning. This project is one of many in our "Art in the Style of" unit which will provide students with a nice reportoire of work samples for students to display during their8th grade portfolio.

Medieval Bestiary Embroidery Designs

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNjRhmwprBE

We showed this video to give some background information about the dragon, unicorn, mermaid, griffin and phoenix. Then students chose a beast template to embroider on a piece of felt that will be sewn onto their tunic as a pocket. The pictures show a couple template designs, the paper removal process, and a couple student examples of the finished product.

Copper Tooled Dragons

Now we have concrete examples for how the tooled dragons are applied on the castle for next year!

Students will learn the basics to create a copper tooled dragon to add to their castle as a design element.
